The
Khoi Khonnexion is beautiful but probably too downtempo for the purposes
of the event. Azania the reggae band was a perfect choice and crowd
response to them was fantastic. The foodcourt this month was a triumph
on Church Square. In the middle of the coldest and darkest month of the
year and no rain on Church Square.
We chose to stage the Kalkfontein show in its most accessible public
space, the taxi rank. This is the day that the rain got us. We setup
the sound, and then the rain stormed down. The show was delayed, but
the rain stopped, the sky opened up and we went on, it was one of the
best shows of the series.
The Kuilsriver Community entertainers, a 70 strong klopse marching
outift, marched 5km from the Kuilsrivier Sports club to the taxi rank
to open the show. They marched in the rain and as they arrived, the
skies opened up. It was quite magnificent. Their komsaam march brought
a lot of people to the show and they were a hit. Many of their members
performed on the open mic.
