JETHRO LOUW
(voice and guitar)
Friday 02 March 2007
Jethro
Louw and Gerald Louw. No relation, and as we write this some time after
the series, no relations at all. They no longer work together.
Jethro is a poet, Gerald a lovely guitar player. They had recently met and it was a good match.
Louw squared. I wish I’d known. I
would’ve bought some tranquillisers on the way…
After I’d read a whole book and eaten
dinner and had coffee and was about to go home they strolled in full
of smiles and in no big hurry.
They had a drink, plugged themselves
in, and proceeded to captivate the almost all-white older-generation
Afrikaans farmers from Bloemfontein drinking beer after beer on the
stoep.
The second part of their set ended
abruptly after about 15 mins, after which I had to force Gerald back
on stage to finish up. He then played Westlife nauseating swooning
covers.
They then pestered me to give them a
lift home. I refused. But ended up waiting with them until midnight
for their “transport” to arrive.
Of course, Jethro’s recordings came
out superbly.
Next time I’ll be prepared!
