I first saw Jono playing a mean bass guitar at Dizu Plaatjies’ house. With Errol Dyers. I also saw him with Alvin Dyers, and Kolelo, and Robbie Jansen. And so many times at Swingers with a host of Cape Town’s finest. And always, I’m struck by how gifted he is. With this gig, he sang and also played lead guitar. He is not the world’s greatest singer, but some of his compositions are very exciting. And he had a lovely rapport with the audience. If only he would talk less and play more!
