MAC MCKENZIE

We brought Mac into the series three times: in solo, duo and trio formations. Mac has composed a symphony (Symphony number 1, working title The Journey) that will be performed on 25 November 2007 at City Hall with the 45 piece Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. Oppiestoep provided the space to experiment with small group performances of extracts of the composition, towards creating a chamber group that can perform both in Cape Town and in Europe.

Members of the CPO joined Mac for the duo and trio sessions, most notably `the Rolls Royce' of bass players, as Mac describes him, Zoltan. He has been the CPO principle bassist for many years.
