When planning our line up for this series, it was my intent to slot more women. I was given a recording of Nicky’s work, and was bowled over by her poetic songwriting style and haunting voice. So I booked her. On the day though, she sang mainly covers, even though she got the original material brief. Her interpretations of Nina Simone and Sade songs were beautiful, but it was only when she sang her own song, that I felt she shone. Many guests loved her though, and plied her with requests, which she gladly granted.
