Who is Maveric?
Maveric is essentially a blues band, and somehow the music is captured
best as Miriam Makeba dancing with Manu Chao at Sade's birthday party.
Something like that.
They've been together for about a year and a half now, and have just released their debut album. It's called Igubu
and its quite different to what you've heard before. The band has still
got a way to travel, they're good and have the potential to be highly
successful, but as a young band are still finding their position. More

What did we want to achieve?
In
developing a band, one of the keys is to have them perform as many
diverse audiences as possible. This is a means of testing not only how
different audiences respond to the music, but also how the band is able
to flex itself in response to different audiences. Maveric, until this
performance, had performed mainly township gigs. And in township
gigs, the sound is generally poor. This was the best Maveric gig to
date, inspired partly by the setting, partly by the quality of sound.
