A mad trio, dressed like gypsies, playing guitar, violin and accordion. Their toe-tapping tunes and stirring melodies evoke images of dances around a fire, travels on horseback, wide open spaces, laughter. And these three laugh a lot on stage. A wonderful sense of performance – you have to experience Grada’s singing! They had fun. And so had the guests.

So far away yet so close – those songs from Eastern Europe resonate in Cape Town. Gypsey. Offbeat and a little out of key. Full of passion and flair. The potential mixup of Cape Malay Choir music and what Kolo is doing is a beautiful thought. Hopefully something that will come out in Oppiestoep 3.

Unfortunately the recording of this gig was unkind to vocals. All of them came out distorted. At least the essence is there.
