LES JAVAN
(solo guitar)
24 December 2006

Les plays guitar with every part of his being. He manages to create sounds on his instrument that seem to come from another world: a land of things that have since gone, and glimpses of what might be, a world filled with unlimited space, rich colours, multi-textured landscapes, slow and swift, graceful and shocking movement, unidentifiable flavours and strange feelings. Nomadic structure, free rhythm, sandstorms and rainforests. Wild horses and Gypsies, Gympies and Goemahare. Dreadlocks lying cut on a heap on dusty wooden floorboards.

Pity he didn’t bring a spare guitar lead, cos his was loose and created static or reverb and just took away from the overall sound. Plus he was an hour and a half late.

When Les and his instrument become one, you forgive his habit of timelessness and imminent restless patterns, because that is how we expect a genius to behave, isn’t it?

Yes, listening to Les play is worth it!
