KURT DIEDRICKS
(guitar, voice, drums, bass)
Saturday 27 January 2007
Kurt is one of the city's emerging songwriters and
performers busy learning some of the hardest lessons of the young
genius: that genius is only the spark, the success is hard work. That
you have to be pushing all the time to make things happen. That
nobody's going to come along and just make a success out of you. It's
the crisis of so many young talented people, in any area.
That hard work might mean taking on a pizza delivery job or a waitering
job to be able to live, and out of those hours working ferociously on
your creative output.
Kurt straddles jazz and pop and rock. He is influenced by the technical
proficiency, history and improvisational elements of jazz, the big big
sounds of rock and the accessibility of pop.
And he's writing good songs. Songs that will one day make him suitably
financially comfortable. Meantime, he's learning to deal with being a
young musician, father and lover. He arrives late and seems out of
focus.
When he can align himself properly, watch out.
