SONG FROM THE SESSION

listen to Jaap Jaap se Stamboom Oom Jaap Jaap se Stamboom.
This isn't from the session. While the duo agreed to a recording and signed a contract, their label boss called in and insisted that the artists had no right and that he wanted the recordings. We said fine. He has still never fetched the recordings. That should tell you everything.

ROCK ART
(accordion, trumpet, keys, voice, mouthbows, flutes, laptop)
30 December 2006

Rock Art is Alex van Heerden and Hilton Schilder. More on both of them is available on the left. Alex plays trumpet, accordion and is the man behind the computer production elements of the sounds. Hilton plays the keys, mouthbows and flutes. Both of them sing.

They released an album on the Dala Flat label (an independent Cape Town label) in 2006 called Future Cape. It's never been heard before what these two are doing. Part accoustic, part electronic, part Khoesan part Navaho Indian, part jazz part dance. This is a pioneering duo.

Listen to a clip of the album on the left.

Hilton was dressed in Japanese silk, Alex in pinstripe wool. The brief was keep the electronic element down tempo and move more with the acoustic. The result was a sweet gig, and a poor recording.
