Overview
The approximate value against adspend generated by the Sunday Spends Khayelitsha was R300 000.

Our marketing reach was broad in Khayelitsha, as detailed below. It was a great improvement on the marketing done within Guguletu for the Sunday Spends Guguletu. We had many telephone enquiries as a result of the street level publicity in Khayelitsha.

Our greatest problem with the marketing was the lack of knowledge of the venue, Look Out Hill. Khayelitsha residents do not know about the venue. This is an indication of the scale of the area and the level of mobility between its different parts. It is also an indication of the current state of relevance the venue offers the Khayelitsha communities.

Radio Partnership

With the Khayelitsha Sunday Spends we wanted to interrogate the existing Khayelitsha media infrastructure.

Radio Zibonele is a Khayelitsha radio station with a listenership of 135 000 people per day. They have just boosted their signal to take in the whole of the Cape Flats, making their potential listenership massive.

We approached Zibonele with the idea of radio partnership and they embraced it. Working with Zibonele was essentially a means of auditing their capacity, both externally as a broadcast service and internally as a business unit. In the growth of Khayelitsha economically, Zibonele is a critical player. The objective of the partnership was to assess their readiness.

With their recently boosted signal, and competition from the more established and national-reach Umhlobo Weneni, Zibonele is trying to boost its profile. The partnership gave Zibonele a marketing platform in the shape of a live event.

Zibonele flighted eight 56 sec adverts per day for 14 days.
